Approximately 25,000 homes in Queensland's southeast were left lacking electricity on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms impacted the state, bringing powerful gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Impact

Locals reported giant hailstones measuring up to 7cm in certain regions. Weather authorities announced that different parts across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units working to manage the extensive power failures.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

At the same time, around 1,000 residents in Victoria also experienced energy failures after the metropolitan area experienced its most precipitation in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 requests for assistance across the state, mostly for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• The Werribee area - recorded substantial storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing area - numerous rescue reports
• Wyndham area - over 175 emergency requests

At the height on the previous day, more than twenty-eight thousand power users in Victoria were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was predicted as the most rainy day, with ongoing severe weather risk predicted across different parts of both states.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
